'The greatest gift you can give someone is your time because when you give your time, you are giving a portion of your life that you will never get back.'
It is a popular topic we commonly hear that giving to charity is a great way to contribute to society by selflessly giving to those who are more in need than you. I am constantly hearing people talking about the benefits of charity contributions, donations, tax breaks, etc; but what about the mere feeling of satisfaction, contentment or simply feeling good within yourself.
It is often asked, but how do I give to charity if I simply do not have the funds? Perhaps you don’t have the luxury of donating $100,000 to a recovery centre or even $50 to the local animal shelter. It is often thought that 'money' is the only way in which one can give back to help those or organisations in need (and is commonly shown through social media by celebrities donating vast amounts of money which most of us, will never have). However, there are many ways to give that don't involve any currency, finances or bank accounts, but rather simply human kindness, time, and generosity.
I for one personally believe that giving my time into volunteering hours, is so much more uplifting and gratifying than paying a charity. You may not get a tax break, but your heart will be fulfilled and you will sleep soundly knowing that you played your part in making the world a better place. It is often we may feel that our acts of kindness, time or energy are not 'seen', and that money is the be all and end all.
I myself am incredibly passionate about giving back in any way I possibly can. I have spent months, days and hours researching into ways I can do so WITHOUT the involvement of money or financial stress. I am so happy to be partnering up with OCEAN MIMIC CANGGU, BALI INDONESIA, a community beach clean up + sustainable eco brand swimwear for women. I am able to give up my time and energy into supporting a cause I feel so passionately about, being an ocean lover myself and contributing to the weekly local beach clean ups here in Canggu. It is heartbreaking seeing the amount of plastic washing up onto the beautiful white beaches here in Bali, especially during rainy season where the amount in fact doubles. Every Sunday here in Canggu at 5pm local time, we are encouraged (I am encouraging you now) to meet us here to help contribute to the clean up of the beach. It only takes an hour out of your day to slide on a glove, grab an eco friendly reusable bag and walk the beach picking up what you can and surrounding yourself with other like minded people. It is so satisfying knowing I am able to make a difference through offering a mere hour of my day (even on holiday) to an amazing cause and charity which I know you would to.
I have written up a little description in the CHARITY tab on my blog about OCEAN MIMIC and would love for you to go check it out. It is an amazing movement that has begun, initiated by two, likeminded young women and I couldn't be more excited to be involved.
